Static Home Page in WordPress

by Paul

I tend to use WordPress alongside my main website – as at Ideas For Marketing. Recently, however, I decided to create a small site using only WordPress. This is a site that is unlikely to undergo too much development – a blog post every now and then – and so I wanted to ensure that visitors see the most important information first, rather than the last post I made – which is the default with WordPress.

What I wanted for the site is to create a number of Pages as the core of the site and then have a link to the blog entries. But how could I achieve this?

Well, I managed it – here’s the evidence: School Blogs (you can see I have a thing about group blogging at the moment)

Fortunately I came across an excellent short video from Mark McLaren. Rather than link just to the video, I have linked to his post over at Business Blogging 101 as there are lots of tips that you may find useful if you are a business blogger.

Incidentally, the final part of the video, removing the duplicate home link, is accomplished very easily in the theme that I am using for this site, Thesis -  just a matter of unchecking a box.
